Greek women produce the first Greek white rum

"We invested the money that we kept for our old age to bring sugar cane back to the area and leave it for our children and our children's children," said the chairman of KINSEP, Petimezi Geniseas, Anastasia Amanatidou. She said she was "justified, proud and joyful that after 15-20 years she and six other women, aged 50 to 70, returned to the field and noted: we live reality at the same time with a fairy tale. We started our sugar cane business to revive the cultivation after 60 years in Greece and since it was abandoned due to financial prosperity Today we are in more advanced stages and we continue.
The first European white rum with petimezi
Today KENSEEP Petimezi Geniseas cultivates 20 stremma (2 hectares) of sugar cane, producing two tons of petimezi per year, while the product of the seven women is sold in small traditional shops in areas from Alexandroupolis to Athens. Also, according to the cooperative, efforts are continuing to produce the first European white rum based on petimezi grown in Genisea, Xanthi.
