Greece: A European country with strong Arab ties fosters dialogue
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
"The vision on which this Conference is based is becoming more and more acceptable and important not only for our region but more widely throughout Europe," Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said in his speech at the opening of the 3rd Euro-Arab Summit, which is held in Athens.
"Three years ago - at this time - we certainly discussed the need for a closer dialogue between Europe and the Arab countries to address regional challenges and strengthen economic cooperation.
"And of course, we considered that Greece - as a European country with strong historical, economic and cultural ties to the Arab world - could play a crucial role in this endeavor," added Mr. Tsipras, and continued:
"But then, not all of our partners in Europe had not recognized how important the Euro-Arab dialogue would be, nor were conditions, at the time, created for Greece to be able to play this crucial role effectively."
