Polytechnic anniversary once again turns to an orgy of rioting and vandalism

The episodes began shortly after 7 pm, on Saturday, when the first Molotov bombs fell from strangers on Stournari Street.

More serious incidents occurred a little later outside the police HQ building when persons unknown threw petrol bombs and other items against police officers who responded using chemicals and stun grenades to repel them.

After 8 pm until after midnight the operational theater, moved to the streets around the Polytechnic and Exarchia square with hooded persons launching scores of petrol bombs, setting up barricades and burning Greek flags.

the "Headquarters" of the attackers once again was the Polytechnic building from which they came out to make their sudden attacks, seeking refuge in the building whenever there was a counterattack of the police.

In order to cope with this peculiar "battle", police also employed a water cannon truck in order to repel the young rioters with water jts.

The first account, after the events, is of a total of 19 arrests at the Polytechnic and the Exarchia area.

Initially, 22 people were rounded up, of which 13 were arrested, while another 6 people were arrested later in the Exarchia area.

The 19 arrested are to be brought before the prosecutor.
