Turkey falsifies incident with Hellenic Navy warship

The Hellenic Navy General Staff refutes the news, but the Turks insist that they chased off a Greek warship, allegedly violating Turkish territorial waters.

It is a new Turkish effort to create tension, while the United States has warned Turkey in the most categorical way, to refrain from challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The incident, according to the IHA agency, occurred in the sea area off Ephesus, in the Guizeltsamli district.

The Greek ship, allegedly, entered into Turkish territorial waters and the Turkish Coast Guard, by warning it in English, asked it to leave.

According to the Turks, the Greek ship did not comply with the warning, and then the Turkish vessel approached it by warning it again and then forced it out of the Turkish waters. However, no mention is made to the Hellenic Navy vessel's name. or its hull classification symbol.

All this is happening as Ankara raises its challenges, Phileleftheros of Cyprus notes, as on Tuesday the research vessel "Barbaros" strayed into the Cypriot EEZ on plot "4" along with four Turkish warships.

The verbal provocations of Turkish officials have not abated all these days. They have even threatened Greece and Cyprus with a hot episode.

The Turkish government feeling pressure, after the start of drilling by ExxonMobil, has become embarrassed and wants to become a regional power.

Diplomatic circles believe it is unlikely that an episode will occur in the sea area, which is overseen by US vessels but also by the Greek frigate "Psara".
