Kammenos statements again trouble the government
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Amidst the Christmas season festivities, Panos Kammenos continues his warnings of withdrawal from the Ministry of National Defense and the government if the Prespa agreement comes to the House.
"Neither History, nor my course in the ministry allows me to consent to the handover of the name Macedonia," he said characteristically, on Christmas Eve from Cyprus and grasping the opportunit, the junior government partner said it might be the last time he visited the island as a minister.
The above did not go unnoticed in the government camp. Circles close to the PM were reluctant to comment on the ANEL leader's new statements, preferring to remain silent.
This silence has its own meaning as it is known that SYRIZA does not want to fan the fire, but there is a creeping discomfort.
What Mr Kammenos said, however, came after his recent meeting with Alexis Tsipras (before the vote on the budget), which, he contends, they agreed not to add further tensions. For this reason, the Prime Minister's office is numb and it is clear that from January such statements will be even more frequent from the president of ANEL. The Prespa Agreement is expected to come to the Greek Parliament in February.
