German Christian Democrats pressuring ND MPs to sign Prespa Agreement
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
"Members of the Greek Parliament have a historic opportunity to vote in favor of the Prespa Agreement. The Agreement is a unique opportunity to realize the Euro-Atlantic perspective of Macedonia.
"Despite the fact that the leader of the largest opposition party has announced that his parliamentary group will vote against the agreement, I am convinced that Europe will benefit from this agreement," said David McAlister, Christian Democrat (CDU) Foreign Affairs head of the European Parliament.
Also, Jürgen Hardh, the CDU / CSU spokesman in the Federal Parliament, said: "I can only encourage our friends in Greece to vote in favor of the Agreement. The solution to the nomenclature is a precondition for Macedonia's accession to NATO. This will further increase Greece's security. Therefore, the Agreement is also for its benefit. "
Christian Democrat (CSU) Florian Han, the parliamentary representative of the Christian Democratic Union for European Affairs in the Federal Parliament / Bundestag, described the Prespa Accord as a "win-win" situation.
"It should be clear to all Greek parties - and to New Democracy - that it is also in the interest of Greece if Macedonia finally approaches the European Union and NATO. The benefits of the rejection of the Agreement by the Greek Parliament will be only for Russia and its geopolitical interests in the Balkans."
Finally, Christian Democrat (CDU) MEP Daniel Kaspari said: "I would be very pleased if New Democracy MPs agree, but I understand that it is difficult for them, as it was once for the Christian Democratic Party hard to agree to agreements with the former eastern countries."
