Police dismantle Georgian gang suspected of dozens of burglaries in Athens

The gang was busted following a special operation carried out by the Attica security police with the assistance of Europol in the greater Athens area, which led to the arrests of three men and one woman believed to be members of the criminal group. Two more suspects are still at large and are being sought.

Police said the gang operated in a number of Attica districts and the loot from their burglaries exceeded 200,000 euros.

The four suspects under arrest were led before an Athens prosecutor on a number of criminal charges and were referred to an examining magistrate.

They are believed to have targeted homes whose owners would be out for some time, usually picking days when the home owners were shopping in local street markets. The stolen goods were then sold at pawn shops in Athens or taken out of the country.
