Umbrella unions, parties and grassroots movements announced their plans to commemorate Labour Day with rallies and marches in Athens and elsewhere on Wednesday, May 1.
The private-sector confederation GSEE called for a 24-hour strike and a rally at 11:00 a.m. at Klafthmonos Square in central Athens, joined by ADEDY, the public-sector umbrella union, which said a march to Parliament will protest "exploitation and social inequalities."
The Popular Unity (LAE) party and extra-parliamentary leftist groups said they would meet at Patission, near the National Archaeological Museum, at 11:00 a.m., while PAME, the labour union affiliated with the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) will gather at Syntagma Square at 10:30 a.m. in Athens.
Similar rallies and marches are planned for other cities as well, including Thessaloniki.
