The Greek Foreign Ministry issued a response to the Turkish Foreign Ministry on the latter’s press release regarding the Pontic Genocide, calling it “an unfortunate attempt to falsify history”.
Athens also called on Ankara to recognise the historical truth and to abandon revisionism as a “prerequisite for honest dialogue and the fight against the extremes of nationalism”.
The Greek Foreign Ministry’s announcement, says that “it is a historical duty for all of us – and especially of neighbouring Turkey – to recognise events such as the genocide of Pontic Hellenism in order not to repeat the darkest moments of the past and to heal the deep wounds left behind. “
