Abolition of university asylum 'very popular within university community', Kerameos says

"The abolition of (university) asylum is very popular within the university community and society (...) It is a ripe demand," Minister of Education and Religious Affairs Niki Kerameos said on Friday in statements to "Praktoreio 104.9 FM", while presenting the plans for the correction of "distortions of the existing system (for access to higher education)".
"What we do not have in all (university) institutions in the country, what has not been guaranteed in all the institutions of the country is a - as far as possible - a better academic environment. We, as a state, have to give these institutions the best possible academic environment. To achieve this, we have made the necessary recommendations - and you will see this shortly in one of the first bills, probably in the coming week - for the abolition of asylum. The same rules that apply for every public space will apply for universities. That means that the authorities can intervene on their own initiative for any offence committed within these institutions. It was a pre-election commitment made by ND and it is also the first provision that will be passed relating to education issues, which has a special symbolism," she said.
