Public Revenue Authority auditors attacked by driver they attempted to check

An Independent Public Revenue Authority auditor was taken to the Rethymnon hospital with a ear drum rupture,in the wake of the unprecedented, violent attack she received from a truck driver whom she attempted to check outside the city of Rethymnon. The driver of the truck also violently attacked another auditor who was also taken to the hospital.
Authority officers, a 58-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, were transferred to Rethymnon Hospital by ambulance with head injuries. However, Rethymnon Hospital staff said that there is no risk to his health. The woman also had a CAT scan and is expected to leave after the necessary examinations.
Police have launched a manhunt to locate the driver. The investigation is continuing, while AUthorith director Pitsilis has already contacted the police chief on the matter.
Police officer Eleni Papathanasiou told AMNA agency that the driver had left in an unknown direction. However, the auditors had been able to note the registration number.
The attack came when AADE inspectors asked a truck driver to inspect the documents and invoices for transported goods. The incident happened when the driver stopped at an outdoor canteen to stock up the small business, his auditors demanded the product papers, and they unexpectedlyreceived a violent attack by the driver who fled leaving the truck behind.
Police are searching for the perpetrator of the attack, while the truck has been confiscated by the police and the license plates have been removed.
