Samos: Immigrant demonstration turns violent, schools closed
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
East Samos Mayor Giorgos Stantzos has decided to close schools in Vathi, Samos, following a protest by refugees and immigrants at the local Reception and Identification Center.
On the spot are powerful police forces who used chemicals to disperse the protest.
Reportedly, the situation is bleak and refugees and immigrants threw rocks at police.
In addition to the school evacuations, traffic on the roads in the area was stopped.
According to samos24.gr, about 300 immigrants had stopped the car while they were shouting slogans to leave Samos. Migrants destroyed chemical toilets at the site, and for unknown reasons the rock throwing against police forces began.
