On Wednesday, January 29, 2020, the Operational Training of the 1st Army Air Brigade (1st TAXAS), in the presence of the chief of the Army General Staff Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousis, was conducted at the Litochoro Tank Firing Range.

Within the framework of training for all aircraft, crews trained for the first time on OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopters, confirming the organized effort made by Army Air Force personnel to bring the helicopters to operational status as quickly as possible.

Speaking to the officers, the general Lalousis congratulated this achievement, emphasizing that the use of this weapon system upgrades the operational capabilities of the Army as a key multiplier. He then welcomed the result of the shots, the high morale of all the staff and urged them to continue with the same zeal, always respecting the rules of flight and ground safety.

He also referred to his predecessors, who over time contributed to the acquisition of the helicopters, as well as to the late Chief of Army Aviation Lieutenant General Antonios Daras, who contributed greatly to the inclusion of the OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter in the Greek Arsenal.

It is noted that the shots were made as part of the training of the first batch of pilots on the specific type, a process conducted with the assistance of American private trainers. This first batch of Army Air Force flyers will then undertake the training of other colleagues.

Photos released by the Army’s Press Office show “ES 530” firing 2.75-inch (70 mm) rockets. On each of the helicopter’s sponsons a container bearing 7 rockets can be attached.
