Developments with the coronavirus and in Greece, as expected, also affected the process of the swearing in of the new President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

Thus, for the first time in the history of the Presidency, the ceremony was attended by around 160 to 170 people, with the initial forecast and initial invitations when printed exceeding 1,000.

An indication is that hygiene measures are most rigorous in the House with parliamentarians wearing disposable gloves, while politicians did not shake hands.

Ms Sakellaropoulou arrived at Parliament and after being hailed by the band and reviewing honor guard she proceeded to greetings by the PM, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and House Speaker Tasoulas,

Ms Sakellaropoulou then proceeded to the House where the requisite blessings were chanted by the Archbishop of Greece, after which she took the oath of office.

She then went to the presidential office where the ceremony of the handing over of duties was carried out with outgoing President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
