EU Mins. of Defense discuss armed forces’ role in fighting coronavirus pandemic

The EU Ministers of Defense on Monday discussed the contribution of armed forces to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, in a video conference chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
The conference was attended by Greek Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos, who spoke of the help military medical and nursing staff and military hospitals offered in treating Covid-19 cases. In addition, military factories were producing protective health-related supplies both the armed forces and the public, he said.
The minister also referred to Greece's "substantial contribution” to Operation IRINI, the European Union’s plan to enforce the UN arms embargo on Libya through the launch of a new joint military operation in the Mediterranean.
