Featured Professor Efthymiou resigned from the 2021 bicentennial committee due to "neutrality" of the celebration

Distinguished historian Maria Efthymiou resigned from the 2021 Commission of Gianna Angelopoulou, according to today's front page of the newspaper "Estia".

According to the newspaper's report, Ms. Efthimiou left the committee through a politeletter to Ms. Angelopoulou, immediately after the controversial posts of Aristides Hatzis about Ioannis Kapodistrias that caused a stir.

It should be noted that Ms. Efthymiou's resignation took place before yesterday's reactions caused by a newer text by Mr. Aristides Hatzis about Georgios Karaiskakis - which was considered by many to be offensive to the Hero of the Revolution. and as a result of which, the committee withdrew it.

It is noted that Maria Efthymiou is a person of high prestige, whose name, in fact, was heard among those who thought a few months ago that the Prime Minister considered her as a possible candidate for the Presidency of the Republic.

The paper says that the main reasons that pushed Ms. Efthymiou to this decision are the tendency of neutrality that occupies the celebration - it is not meant to celebrate the birth of a Nation without the flag on its official emblem - and the discoloration of Greek History.

Ms. Efthymiou was honored in 2013 with the Excellent University Teaching Award, while in October 2014 she protested with other professors and students of the EKPA School of Philosophy against the occupation of the school and the interruption of the courses.

In an interview in January 2018, she expressed her concerns about the future of the country and Greek society in general, while claiming that Greek universities, for decades, have become places of lawlessness and barbarism, garnering threats from an anarchist group. which threatened Ms. Efthymiou that "she will find them opposite her" accusing her of ideological bias.

She herself, with more courage, replied that she was not afraid of threats, continuing her work and teachings normally.
