Mitsotakis for Microsoft investment: It is not just a technological and economic leap, it is a step towards democratization (vid)

Featured Mitsotakis for Microsoft investment: It is not just a technological and economic leap, it is a step towards democratization (vid)

The presentation of the 1 billion investment of Microsoft in Greece by the president of the company Brad Smith and the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been completed.

The investment is made in the framework of the #GrforGrowth strategic cooperation program.

In his speech, Microsoft President Brad Smith said that it is "the largest investment in the 28 years of Microsoft in Greece", adding that "this investment shows support in Greece, the Greek people, the Greek government. We do not do it in all countries, not even lightly. And the fact that we are doing it in 2020, I think speaks eloquently about what is happening in Greece," added the president of Microsoft.

At the same time, he stated that "In January, I met K. Mitsotakis in Davos and he told me that we need to make more investments [in Greece]. He was very convincing. "

Mitsotakis: Greece is becoming a global hub of the cloud

In his speech, the Prime Minister said:

It all started at the end of January, in Davos when I had the opportunity to meet Brad Smith for the first time.
In just 9 months we arrived here, to a multilevel investment, thanks to which Greece will become a global hub of the cloud.
From 2021 the visitor of Ancient Olympia will see it in 3D through an application. The way we view our ancient culture and monuments will change completely.
With the Greek cloud, Greek data and data from the wider region will be stored here in Greece safely and at a lower cost.
As a citizen I expect cheaper and faster digital services. As Prime Minister, I expect more. The benefits will be greater for small and medium-sized enterprises and I expect start-ups to be helped as well.
I do not accept this investment only as a technological and economic leap. It is also a step towards democratization.

The meeting in Davos

It is recalled that the Prime Minister had two previous meetings with the President of Microsoft, one last January in Davos, where the possibility of the next Microsoft Data Center in Greece was discussed and then in February at the Maximos Mansion (the PM's office), where the synergies were mentioned. can occur in many areas with the utilization of digital technology and the opportunities that exist for increased investment and enhanced cooperation with Microsoft in Greece. The two men also talked about the ways in which Microsoft could contribute to efforts to enhance sustainable development and the transition to a green economy, through investment in our country, but also the potential for highlighting cultural heritage and upgrading education in from innovative digital applications.

It is noted that the representative of Microsoft, Charles Lamanna, on 29/5/20, during a teleconference of the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the founders of Greek technology companies that attracted foreign investment during the pandemic, had stated that the company plans to create a RPA (Robotic Process Automation) development center in Greece.
