The General Secretariat of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has put under its auspices the Panhellenic Student Competition for the creation of digital works entitled "Hack the Map: Fantastic Worlds", which is addressed to all Greek schools of secondary and secondary education, as well as expatriates abroad.
The Competition is organized by the Onassis Foundation and the Onassis Library in collaboration with the General Archives of the State, the Cartographic Heritage Archive-Historical Archive of Macedonia and the Department of Geography of Harokopio University, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and Religions.
Students are invited to browse, with the help of technology, on maps and to bring to life depictions of the Greek space from the past. Drawing inspiration from historical events, myths and fantastic stories of travelers, they will travel through time and hack with the help of new digital tools land and sea of Greece.
As stated by the General Secretary of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy, Giannis Chrysoulakis: "the student competition Hack the Map invites high school and lyceum students to approach with a creative look important historical evidence through the possibilities offered by new technologies. We consider it important that the Competition is the trigger for them to enter the process of conducting historical research, to get in touch with primary sources and archives and to get to know the history of Greek cities and the myths and stories that accompany them.
At the same time, the Competition aims to enhance and expand students' digital skills and make them active and critical users of technology. At the General Secretariat of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy we support the initiatives that promote the Greek language and culture, as well as the initiatives that preserve the Memory as a legacy, but also as an interpretive tool that illuminates the path of the Present and the Future. "This initiative, which is aimed at Greek schools in Greece and abroad, motivates students to engage in a process through which they will be more connected to their place of origin, developing a range of skills."
The winners of the Competition will win cash prizes and equipment for their schools. The deadline for submitting applications to the Competition expires on January 17, 2022.
