Tae Kwon Do Olympian Nikolaidis to be buried at public expense on Saturday

The funeral of Olympic silver medallist in Tae Kwon Do Alexandros Nikolaidis, 42, will be held at public expense at Filiros, NE of Thessaloniki, on Saturday.
Expenses will be assumed by the in the Pylea-Chortiatis municipality of metropolitan Thessaloniki, following an extraordinary meeting of the municipal council.
Nikolaidis, who was also alternate spokesman for main opposition party SYRIZA, died after a two-year battle with NUT carcinoma, a rare form of cancer.
The son of an athlete, Nikolaidis took part in two Olympics, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, where he won silver medals. He had an outstanding record in the sport with several medals in regional, European, and international competitions.
He leaves behind him a wife and two children.
