Train collision death toll climbs to 57, says Hellenic Police spokesperson

The death toll of the train collision that occurred on the Athens-Thessaloniki line has risen to 57, Hellenic Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou confirmed on Thursday evening.
Dimoglidou said that 48 people are still in hospital.
She told Athens-Macedonian News Agency that relatives and friends had declared 56 people as missing. The 57th person, among the confirmed dead, appears to not have been declared missed by anyone.
The remains of all crash victims are being transferred to the Larissa General Hospital, where they are being identified by DNA methods.
The collision occurred late on Tuesday night near Tempi in central Greece between a passenger train travelling north and a freight train travelling south on the same line. A station master in the central Greek city of Larissa has been detained over the accident.
