Featured Mitsotakis: We have a lot of work ahead of us

Greece continues to play a leading role on the road to development, Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Friday during a cabinet meeting.

Referring to the bills that will be discussed at the meeting and are expected to be submitted for a vote in Parliament in the near future, he stated that "we have a lot of work ahead of us" and that this is an important challenge for the government.

"We are aware that there will be obstacles but we will continue to be consistent in our pre-election programme," Mitsotakis noted.

The prime minister referred to the recent large fires and reiterated that yesterday's announcements in the Parliament do not aim at hiding the weaknesses that have been identified in the field of prevention and early detection, or to nullify the efforts made in an unequal battle.

Mitsotakis also made a special reference to the climate that prevailed yesterday in the Parliament, saying that "apart from simplistic comments, I did not hear any substantiated and costed counter-proposals. It is clear that in the new Parliament we will be alone on the path of responsibility. We take this responsibility," he said, thus expressing his disappointment at the presence of the opposition parties.

The prime minister referred to the important reforms that include the bills to be approved during today's cabinet meeting, specifically in areas such as health through the restructuring of the EKAB operation, faster delivery of justice and transport through the modernisation of the fleet of city buses.

Mitsotakis also referred to the issuance of the new identitity cards, criticizing what accompanies the specific process in the public debate: "The new IDs have neither chips, nor cameras. Let the citizens not become victims of mockery by rushing to issue old-style identity cards," he said referring to fake news.
