The 22-year-old girl who was attacked on Friday afternoon by a foreign man, who was subsequently arrested, in Ermou, in the center of Athens, is still being treated in the ICU of the "Evangelismos" hospital.
According to the latest medical announcement issued late Friday night, the 22-year-old has overcome the danger to her life and has regained contact with the environment.
The 22-year-old girl was lucky in her misfortune
The young lady was lucky, in her misfortune, as the backpack she was wearing on her back, where she received the knife from the Iranian perpetrator of the attack, seems to have managed to protect her from the worst.
Attack in Ermou: Moments of panic at noon on Friday
The shocking incident took place at the junction of Ermou and Fokionos streets, one of the most central points of the capital, around 1:30 p.m., while the young lady was heading to the clothing store where she works.
Shortly before the 22-year-old reached her destination, the 42-year-old Iranian, who is said to be suffering from psychological problems, approached her from behind and stabbed her twice in the shoulder blade.
He then remained in the middle of the road, brandishing the knife of the attack, until he was arrested by police who rushed to the scene.
“The girl was a spy and she was watching me. I stabbed her to avoid her," the assailant reportedly told the authorities, claiming that the 22-year-old is an "agent of the Germans." It is noted that, according to what has become known, the 42-year-old brought a German passport, while he arrived in Greece the day before the attack.
The authorities were initially investigating the possibility that the perpetrator and the victim knew each other and that there was some personal difference, but also the possibility of an attempted robbery. It now appears that this is a mentally disturbed individual who committed a random attack on the street.
