Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis gave assurances that the truth about the murder of a young woman outside the Agii Anargyri police station will be fully revealed, in statements while visiting the Central Macedonia Region authority for a meeting with the region's governor, Apostolos Tzitzikostas and Thessaloniki-area mayors on policing.

"Four days after the tragic incident on April 1, in which a young woman, Kyriaki Griva, was lost, we continue to mourn and grieve," the minister said, adding that he was "personally devastated, as this is one of the most unpleasant and difficult moments I have experienced in my long career and my personal life." He offered his condolences to the family of the victim.

"The investigation is being carried out at great speed. I am certain that it will end very soon and the truth will be fully revealed. The Hellenic Police have sent all the material to all authorities - and are themselves conducting an investigation - without concealing anything. There will be the whole truth, in full, and this will be presented to the citizens of our country and, at the same time, there will be an assessment that must be carried out so that such incidents don't happen again," he said.

The young woman, 28, was killed outside the police station by her estranged former partner after she had gone there to seek protection against him from the police.

Regarding the meeting in Thessaloniki, he said that a lot needs to change with respect to Thessaloniki's policing, while 500 new police officers had been brought in to man crucial services, fight crime and deal with traffic issues due to the flyover.

The 39-year-old man arrested for the fatal stabbing of Kyriaki Griva, 28, outside the Agii Anargyri police station where she had sought protection, was on Thursday led before the 25th regular examining magistrate to testify regarding the charges against him.
He is expected to attempt to persuade the magistrate that the committed violent crime as a result of chronic mental health issues, for which he has received hospital treatment in the past.
