The Greek-flagged tanker Sounion, which was attacked by Yemen's Houthi rebels last week in the Red Sea, remains on fire since August 23, the European naval mission "Shields" announced today via X.
The force deployed in the area by the EU to protect international shipping earlier this year said there were fires in five places on the deck of the ship, which, according to Greece's shipping ministry, was carrying 150,000 tons of crude oil to Corinth. loaded at the port of Basra, Iraq.
The video from the moment the tanker was hit can be seen here
The "Shields" mission added that there is no indication of an oil leak from the tanker, at least at this stage.
The Sounion remains where it was anchored, between Eritrea and Yemen, the European power also stressed - it is not "drift" unruly, as reported to the British maritime safety agency UKMTO on Friday.
