730,000 Uninsured Cars in Greece
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Figures about uninsured vehicles came out, and it appears 730000 cars and motorbikes circulate on Greek streets everyday with no insurance. This according to the head of the Insurance Companies Union vehicles department.
Dimitris Zorbas, who also heads a committee comprised with members from the ministries of Citizen Protection, Finance and Transportation, and the Insurance Companies Union, has cross checked the Insurance Companies databases with those of the Transport ministry and found 730000 discrepancies.
The next step for the Finance ministry is to notify the uninsured vehicle owners and send them those dreaded penalty notes. In other words, uninsured drivers will have to pay fines over the cost of a retroactive insurance policy. At least insurance costs are 15% cheaper than last year on average.
