The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) has ushered in a new era of leadership with the election of Isidoros Kouvelos as its president, ending Spyros Capralos's 16-year tenure.
Kouvelos secured a decisive victory in Tuesday's election, receiving 21 votes compared to Capralos's 13.
Stelios Aggeloudis, the mayor of Thessaloniki, was elected vice president
In a historic move, the new board will include two Olympic champions, Michalis Mouroutsos and Dimosthenis Tampakos, for the first time, signifying a closer connection to Greece's rich athletic heritage.
"This is a moment of renewal for the Hellenic Olympic Committee," said Kouvelos, who acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor while emphasizing a fresh start for the organization.
The new leadership team, which includes Mouroutsos as second vice president and Stefanos Chandakas as general secretary, has outlined a vision that prioritizes innovation, growth, and a stronger connection between sports governance and Greece's Olympic legacy.
This transition marks a pivotal moment for Greek sports, blending experience with a renewed focus on the future of the HOC and its athletes.
