Kimberly Guilfoyle: I am ready to strengthen US-Greece ties
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The positive Kimberly Guilfoyle climate in Greece is reflected in a report on the US website Breibart with the new US ambassador to Greece declaring “honor and humility” for the “support from Greek allies” as the article features statements from Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Archbishop Hieronymos.
And in response to the publication, Ms. Guilfoyle in a Facebook post sent the message “I am ready to strengthen the incredible ties between Greece and the United States.”
As the Breibart reporter’s report states, “the prime minister, his government officials, representatives of culture, business across the country are excited to have such a high-profile ambassador come once she is confirmed by the U.S. Senate.”
“We look forward to her confirmation by the Senate,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis tells Breibart News, adding “I look forward to meeting her once she comes to Greece. I think she’ll find that Greek-American relations are at an all-time high, so she’s essentially coming at a time when we have a very strong relationship that we can further improve.”
“I haven’t met her yet. But I have to say that the first things I saw were excellent. The speech she gave at the White House during our National Day ceremony was an excellent speech and I understand she’s really excited about coming to Greece. That’s a very good sign. And on the other hand, I think President Trump’s decision to have her in Greece – to have someone really close to him – is a sign that he really cares about Greece. We’re going to have an ambassador who, if necessary, can speak directly to him. This is important,” Adonis Georgiades says.
“We are looking forward to her arrival and I will brief her on many key steps that need to be taken in the right direction, slowly but surely.” Having lived for almost nine decades and having spent time in Europe, I have developed a global perspective, including on Greece. Greeks are a people who are philanthropic, honest, hard-working, respectful people. But they also carry a certain fear, because they have endured so much hardship over the years. That is why I was pleased to hear of her appointment. I have already spoken to her by telephone and we are ready to welcome her to Greece. I think she has the potential to be an effective ambassador who will bring our two great nations even closer together,” Archbishop Hieronymos noted for his part.
As for the timing of Ms. Guilfoyle’s arrival in Greece, the Breibart News report states that “she will likely have a confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee later this spring or early summer and will be confirmed by the full U.S. Senate shortly thereafter.”
