Gangland assassination in broad daylight in downtown Halandri

Featured Gangland assassination in broad daylight in downtown Halandri

The perpetrators of the murder of Giorgos Moschouris, who fell dead from a hail of gunfire outside a diagnostic center in Halandri, on Thursday afternoon, had set up an ambush.

According to the testimony of a doctor from the medical center, the victim was armed and it is estimated that he may have managed to return fire, although this has not been officially confirmed.

The perpetrators seem to have monitored the 53-year-old's movements and knew when he would appear. They parked their vehicle in an adjacent open space, next to the building, with only a wire fence separating them from the entrance. When Moschouris left the center, he was shot more than ten times. After completing the attack, the perpetrators fled in the same vehicle to Patima Halandriou, where they set it on fire and continued their escape in another car.

Officers from the Homicide Department of the Attica Police have already collected footage from security cameras located in neighboring homes, while footage from previous days is also being analyzed to identify suspicious movements.

In another video recorded a few meters away from the scene of the murder, gunshots can be clearly heard. Vehicles brake abruptly and a motorcyclist, in a state of panic, loses control and falls to the roadway.

Who was George Moschouris - The chronicle of the execution
The victim of the cold-blooded execution was known to the authorities by the nickname "Thamnakias" or "Megalos" or "Trelos", as a member of the Greek Mafia.

The attack took place on Palaiologou Street (Papanikoli), the main artery of the area, outside the private clinic "Praxis Ygias". According to eyewitnesses and medical personnel, Moschouris had gone for a scheduled cosmetic treatment.

The moment he left the clinic, he was shot by unknown assailants riding in a car. One of them opened fire in a burst with a Kalashnikov, fatally wounding him. More than 30 shell casings were found at the scene, while the area was immediately cordoned off by strong police forces.

A short time later, a burnt-out vehicle was found in Patima, Chalandri, which was allegedly used to escape the perpetrators.

Security cameras under the microscope of the authorities
The Homicide Department of the Attica Security has launched an intensive investigation into the case. Footage from security cameras in the wider area is already being examined, both from the time of the attack and from previous days, with the aim of identifying the perpetrators and detecting movements that indicate surveillance.

Assassination attempt in 2020
Yesterday's murder wa s not the first attempt on Moschouris. On July 27, 2020, he was seriously injured by a bullet in the abdomen, in an attack outside a bakery-pastry shop in Voula. At that time, he was rescued thanks to his armored car.

In December 2020, his 39-year-old “deputy leader”, known by the nicknames “Black” or “Gypsy”, was executed in Ilioupoli. In 2023, his name was also implicated in a case of attempted murder of a nightclub owner.

It is noted that a driver who happened to be passing by the scene miraculously escaped the bullets that fell. Bullets were even found inside the diagnostic center.
