A major operation to dismantle a human trafficking and document forgery ring has been underway since early morning by the Hellenic Police (ELAS).
The operation, which is still ongoing, involves officers from the Athens Crimes Investigation and Suppression Division.
According to initial reports, police have carried out at least 12 arrests.
Police sources say that among those arrested is the leader of the ring, who operated a large forgery lab in Peristeri.
The same sources report that the ring is connected to over 500 cases of illegal migrant trafficking.
They had established four document forgery labs, with illegal profits estimated at no less than €4 million.
