Greek Defense Minister Warns of 'Large and Growing Threat' from Turkey
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Greek Defense Minister Mr. Nikos Dendias has issued a stark warning in Parliament about a “large and growing threat” from Turkey, stating that its behavior is “worsening” and called for national unity to bolster the country’s deterrence.
“We need to establish deterrence capabilities yesterday, not tomorrow” against a “strengthened and assertive neighbor,” Mr. Dendias said during a debate on a new defense bill.
He cited Turkey’s “blue homeland” ideology as evidence of a “revisionist mentality originating from Ankara” that he called an “undeniable fact.”
Addressing opposition parties, Mr. Dendias urged cooperation to create a unified stance that would allow any future prime minister to negotiate from a position of strength during a crisis.
He also stressed that Greece’s strategic focus must extend beyond the Aegean to the wider Eastern Mediterranean, where the country has key sovereignty rights
