Greek Politicians React to Killing of Charlie Kirk
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The assassination of American conservative advocate Charlie Kirk, an ally of former U.S. President Donald Trump, has prompted strong reactions from conservative and far-right politicians in Greece, who condemned the killing on social media.
Mr. Kirk was shot and killed by a sniper on Wednesday while at Utah Valley University. U.S. authorities said the shooter, who remains at large, fired a high-powered rifle from a distance.
Several ministers from Greece's ruling New Democracy party posted condolences.
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said Mr. Kirk was targeted for "defending his ideas," while Maritime Affairs Minister Vassilis Kikilias called the assassination a "blow to democracy."
The leader of the far-right Voice of Reason party, Afroditi Latinopoulou, went further, posting a video that blamed "the left" for the killing.
U.S. authorities have not yet confirmed a political motive in the attack, and no suspect has been identified.
