Anavyssos: 40-year-old man kidnapped and beaten for a debt of 16,000 euros – 20-year-old Romanian the mastermind
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A 40-year-old man was beaten and kidnapped in Anavyssos last Tuesday (30/12) over a debt of 16,000 euros, in a story that strongly resembles a mafia movie.
According to information, the incident occurred around 13:00 at noon, when the victim went to a cafe in Anavyssos to meet a 20-year-old Romanian to whom he allegedly owed 16,000 euros.
As the 40-year-old discovered when he arrived there, the 20-year-old had not gone to the meeting alone, but with a “company” of a 21-year-old Greek and a 47-year-old Romanian. Upon their arrival, the perpetrators began to threaten the 40-year-old that they would harm him if he did not return the amount owed, with the latter telling them that he did not have the money and that he would return it in a few days.
Then the four men left the scene so that the 40-year-old could immediately seek money from acquaintances, but the attempt was unsuccessful, resulting in the perpetrators becoming furious. They punched him in the face and forced him into a car. The 20-year-old then took him to his apartment in Kamatero and locked him in a room. What he did not do, and which proved to be the catalyst, was to take his mobile phone.
The man called his father, described his adventure, sent him the location where he was being held, but asked him not to notify the authorities, explaining that he would handle the case himself. Understandably, the 40-year-old's father lost his composure and after a few hours decided to call the police and ask for help.
Following the above, police officers from the Saronic Gulf Police Department placed the home of the 20-year-old Romanian under discreet surveillance on Wednesday morning (31/12) and spotted the victim leaving the apartment building together with the accused and going to a closed parking lot. Immediately, the police officers, after making their status known, stopped the young man and took the 40-year-old into custody, who, as was found, had bruises on his face.
In a search carried out, in the presence of a judicial officer, in the Romanian's apartment, a metal bat, a metal truncheon and a wallet with bank cards and the victim's driver's license were found and confiscated, among other things, which were located inside a piece of furniture, in a place that the victim did not have access to.
It should be noted that the 20-year-old has been charged in the past with attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm, as well as violations of the Narcotics Law and the Weapons Law.
