Ioannina: Presidential Guard, F-16s and helicopters in the parade for the Liberation of the city
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A platoon of the Presidential Guard, F-16 warplanes and military helicopters already parked at the Ioannina airport will take part in the grand parade for the city’s Liberation on Saturday, February 21.
The President of the Republic Constantine Tasoulas will also be “present”, who will be at the Paniversary event organized by the Municipality of Ioannina in the afternoon in the hall of the Academia.
The pair of warplanes and helicopters are expected to fly during the time when the military units are parading.
The Liberation of Ioannina historically was a pivotal event for the country and the course of the First Balkan War.
The victory of the Greek army at the fortifications of Bizanios put an end to almost five centuries of the Ottoman yoke in the region, liberating one of the most important spiritual and economic nuclei of Hellenism.
