Skertsos: Greece for third consecutive year in The Economist’s International Democracy Index
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
State Minister Akis Skertsos cited the new annual report from The Economist regarding the functioning of democratic institutions.
"On April 7, 2026, the latest annual report by the international magazine The Economist on the state of democracy worldwide was published. It is one of the most credible assessments, both journalistically and academically, over the past 20 years regarding the rule of law and the functioning of democratic institutions in 167 countries," Skertsos explained, adding:
"After a long period of 14 years, from 2009 to 2022, during which Greece was classified as a flawed democracy, it has returned, thanks to the policies implemented, to the elite group of just 26 countries out of 167 evaluated worldwide by The Economist as full democracies, starting in 2023.
This year's report marks the third consecutive year since 2023 that Greece has been ranked in this category."
