From April 13 to 17, 2026, the Jewish Community of Athens hosted a delegation of 150 young leaders from the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), aiming to strengthen ties with Greek Jewry.
During the visit, participants had the opportunity to meet with the United States Ambassador to Greece, Ms. Kimberly Guilfoyle, at the Beth Shalom Synagogue, where issues of cooperation and religious freedom were discussed. This was followed by a presentation by the Chief Rabbi of Athens, Gabriel Negrin, on the history of the Jewish Community of Athens and its current activities, during which he provided in-depth answers to the participants’ particularly insightful questions.
The Vice President of the Jewish Museum of Greece, Mr. Errikos Aronēs, spoke about the significant renovation of the Jewish Museum of Greece, a project of particular importance for Greek Jewry. The program included a meeting with the Secretary General, Ms. Alchanati, and the Director of the Jewish Community of Athens, Mr. Atoun, featuring an exchange of views highlighting the importance of relations between the Jewish communities of North America and our Community.
The visit continued with a tour of the Community’s memorial sites, an introduction to the work of the Social Services, as well as engagement with members through creative activities and experiential experiences. The visit concluded with a Shabbat dinner at the Hotel Grande Bretagne, leaving a particularly positive impression on all participants.
