Foreign Minister's demarche to Kiev regarding the sea drone in Lefkada: It could have caused innocent casualties, such actions are not justified
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis submitted an oral and written protest to Kiev regarding the Ukrainian naval drone spotted in Lefkada.
Specifically, the protests took place both at the Ukrainian embassy in Athens and at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
The Greek protest notes that the naval drone seriously endangered maritime traffic and could have caused casualties among innocent civilians and incalculable environmental damage.
Athens also points out in its protest its position that the transfer of military operations to the Mediterranean is dangerous and, among other things, jeopardizes its national security and could also cause damage to its economy.
In a stern tone, Athens states in the demarche that Ukraine's right to self-defense cannot justify such actions and calls on Kiev to refrain from similar actions in the future, as well as from the unjustified transfer of operations to the Mediterranean.
It is noted that George Gerapetritis has informed the EU High Representative, Kaia Kalas, about the results of the investigation included in the conclusion, which was drawn up by the experts, while he also had a telephone conversation on the matter with NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte.
