Turkish media on the EMEC agreement: "Anti-Turkish front", "Greeks need an Ottoman slap"

Featured Turkish media on the EMEC agreement: "Anti-Turkish front", "Greeks need an Ottoman slap"

As part of a broader plan aimed at isolating Turkey, a large part of the Turkish press presents the agreement between Greece, Cyprus, Israel and the US to create the Eastern Mediterranean Energy Center (EMEC).

They even express concerns that a new geopolitical and energy reality is being created in the region, with the dominant message that “Greece, Cyprus, Israel and the US are building a new energy front in the Eastern Mediterranean”. They add that this development “demonstrates the importance of the Blue Homeland”.

“Anti-Turkish front in the Eastern Mediterranean”, Yeniçağ headlines her article and adds: “A remarkable energy movement has taken place in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Republic of Cyprus, Greece, Israel and the United States have agreed on a common roadmap for the creation of a new energy hub. This agreement, which includes regional energy security and natural gas projects, could have critical geopolitical consequences for Turkey.”

The publication makes extensive reference to the statement of intent “which was signed at a meeting in Houston, USA, by Cypriot Energy Minister Michael Damianos, Greek Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, Israeli Ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright.”

Milliyet reports the news citing information from the Greek Cypriot press, emphasizing that the four countries agreed in Houston, USA, to draw up a joint roadmap for energy security, natural gas fields and the protection of critical infrastructure, noting that the plan is expected to be approved by the end of the year.

In fact, in a comment on social media, Milliyet claims that “Israel’s cooperation with the Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus has turned into Tel Aviv’s hegemony on the island, which aims to change the balance to Turkey’s detriment in the Eastern Mediterranean, with the support of Greece.”

Without comment, the Turkish news agency Anadolu also simply reports the event:

“According to reports in the Greek Cypriot press, the Republic of Cyprus, Israel, Greece and the United States signed a declaration of intent for the creation of the Eastern Mediterranean Energy Hub and the development of a joint roadmap for future energy cooperation. The declaration of intent was signed by Cypriot Energy Minister Michael Damianos, Greek Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright at a meeting held in Houston, USA”.

The importance of the Blue Homeland doctrine
“An energy alliance targeting Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean”, reports Haber7, underlining that “the US, Israel, Greece and the Greek Cypriot government have created a new energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean with the aim of excluding Turkey. In response to this move, Ankara remains determined to protect its sovereign rights in the Blue Homeland”.

While Greek Cypriot officials have stressed the political importance of the established center, statements from the US and Greece indicate a unilateral effort to exclude Turkey, which aims to reshape the energy equation in the region to Ankara’s detriment, the publication writes.

Indeed, it cites analysts according to whom these moves constitute “a clear indication of a unilateral effort to create a fait accompli in the Eastern Mediterranean, which excludes Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)”.

“Ankara categorically emphasizes that it will not compromise its rights in the Blue Homeland against these alliance efforts to sideline Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean. Turkey is ready to take all military, diplomatic and legal measures against any unilateral activity in the areas within its continental shelf and in the licensed areas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Ankara proves on every platform that the energy equation in the region cannot be determined without Turkey and clearly shows that it has the strength and will to protect its borders and rights under all risks, situations and circumstances.”

For its part, Yeniakit emphasizes that this development demonstrates how important the Blue Homeland doctrine is: "The importance of the Blue Homeland doctrine revealed once again: A dirty alliance in the Eastern Mediterranean!", is the title of the relevant article, which emphasizes: "President Erdogan, in a speech, stressed that they will not allow any initiative that ignores the rights and interests of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots in the region, stating: "Our response will be very clear and very stable".

Milligazete writes that the Greeks now need an "Ottoman slap", highlighting the role of Israel against Turkey: "Empowered by the change of government in Syria, the Zionists, who for the first time since their establishment had the opportunity to expand their territory by 70%, do not stop. With the end of the process that began with the civil war in Syria, Israel has surrounded us like an octopus. Not content with this, Israel is also in the forefront of alliances hostile to Turkey. The Greeks, encouraged by the economic and military support that Israel provides to fuel hostility towards Turkey, committed another shameless act".

"A bad move in the Eastern Mediterranean", writes Турк inform, describing the meetings and the agreement in Houston.
