National Security Council meets today to rubber stamp 4.3 bln euro defense package

The aim of today's meeting is to give the green light to one of the largest armament programs that will lead the Armed Forces into the new era.

The total cost of the armament program is estimated at 4.3 billion euros.

The armament program includes the crown jewel of the new package, the "Achilles Shield", the country's defensive armor dome, the cost of which is estimated at 3.5 billion euros. The "Achilles Shield" will replace the current fragmented air defense system, under a new structure that will be able to face any foreign threat, such as missiles, drones, etc.

Also, the KYSEA is expected to approve a series of other armament programs today for which the Parliament has already given the green light.

These are:

Three new Embraer C-390 Millennium transports from Portugal.

Military microsatellites, which are part of a cooperation program with Poland.

VICTA boats with the ability to transport up to eight members of the special forces above and below water.

Two Heron drones that will be allowed to incorporate weapons.

Non-kinetic anti-drone systems for the islands of the Eastern Aegean.

Ten V-BAT systems with a total of twenty aircraft.

And additional missiles, binoculars and sonar for the MEKO frigates.
An additional HERON-1 unmanned aerial vehicle from Israel to strengthen the existing fleet of these UAVs for surveillance missions in the Aegean.
