Foiled grenade attack plot targeting Greek officials

Greek police are searching for a fourth suspect believed to have ordered a grenade attack plot that targeted a judicial official, a police officer, two journalists and a prison employee, state broadcaster ERT has reported.
The plot was uncovered following the arrest of an Egyptian national in Glyfada, who was found in possession of a hand grenade.
Authorities allege the attack was organized by a man serving a life sentence at Diavata prison, who directed the operation from behind bars. Police are also searching for a 27-year-old who allegedly supplied the grenade during a meeting in Glyfada, making him the third suspect in the case alongside the mastermind.
According to investigators, the 30-year-old Egyptian arrested with the grenade had agreed to carry out the attack for €2,500, receiving a €500 advance payment, with the remainder due after the device was thrown at the target's home.
Authorities are examining communications between the two Egyptian nationals, after voice messages, photographs and map coordinates believed to have been sent by the imprisoned suspect were found on the arrested man's phone.
Digital evidence indicates the pair first made contact on July 21.
Investigators say the imprisoned suspect instructed his accomplice to carry out the attack using either a firearm or a grenade, and had provided details on the intended targets and locations.
A separate arson attack on a café in Kallithea, also allegedly ordered by the same suspect, was called off at the last minute, according to the investigation.
The case remains under investigation.
