Koufodinas rants against maximum security prison

Jailed 17 November terrorist Dimitris Koufontinas, is again in the media, after the controversial publication of his memoirs, with a letter blasting the construction of the new maximum security prison.

In a letter to Pontiki newspaper, Koufodinas verbally attacked citizen protection minister Nikos Dendias for the decision to build the new maximum security correctional facility at Domokos. At the same time he has no hesitation in threatening authorities that “like in 2002 the struggles of the inmates and the solidarity movement overturned such plans, overturning political isolation, so it will be now as well.”

Koufodinas considers the new facilities a “Greek Guantanamo” and characterized them the “fascist inspiration of Messrs Charalambos Athanasiou and Nikos Dendias.”

The 17 November assassin places greater emphasis on the restrictions placed on terrorists and dangerous criminals that will be hosted there since as he says: “Inmates at the special type prisons will be stripped of all the rights other prisoners enjoy (furlough, reprieves, etc). Visiting times and telephone calls will be curtailed (almost totally). Prisoners will remain in cells for up to 23 hours a day. A special police with secret authority and power will be placed in the prison.”

Koufodinas blames the killing of the prison guard at Malandrino on the people who thought up the measures claiming that measures have become already more severe.
