New Democracy Claims SYRIZA Plans to Destabilize Greece
Today, SYRIZA shot down claims that it is scheming to snatch Greek citizens' provisions, if they are voted into office.
New Democracy claimed that SYRIZA MP Manolis Glezos is planning for this. During the past weekend, Glezos implied in an interview that a leftist reigning political party may wish to generate funds from Greeks, through uncommon methods, as reported by Kathimerini. The MP did not offer details, but stated that the party would target high income individuals, rather than savings accounts.
New Democracy believes that Glezos wants to administer forced internal lending, therefore citizens would be forced to offer deposits to support the nation's economy. The current administration cited a past interview, where Glezos implied that the party would focus on everyone with a gross yearly income of more than 30,000 euros.
New Democracy spokesman Simos Kedikoglou proclaimed, "SYRIZA is intentionally trying to destabilize the Greek economy". However, SYRIZA and Glezos renounced the charge. The party blamed the ND spokesman of "distortion", and stated that their party has never held an official stance on the confiscation of savings accounts.
