Sunday Brings Thessaloniki Water & Sewage Privatization Vote
On Sunday, Thessaloniki citizens will be asked to vote in the municipal and regional elections three times, regarding the city's water and sewage privatizations.
Regional Association of Central Macedonia Municipalities Simos Daniilidis reported to ANA-MPA, "It is the first time that such a referendum is organized on a regional level". The referendum's voting hours will be between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at schools in eleven municipalities of the greater area, where Thessaloniki Water Supply and Sewage provides services.
The voting method is centered on the voter's list administered for local governmental elections, and is being monitored by EYATH employees, municipality representative and the "136 Movement". The "136 Movement" adamantly opposes the privatization.
Thessaloniki's Bar Association is also collaborating in the activity, while European spectators will oversee the measures, along with volunteers. Daniilidis further added, "The first messages that the Association is getting from the citizens indicate that the people are reacting positively to the referendum".
