NY Times Publishes "Greece's Austerity Orphans" Slideshow
This week, the New York Times published a slideshow titled: "Greece's Austerity Orphans", depicting the horrific conditions of the nation's discarded children.
In the midst of Hellenic financial turmoil, Nikos Pilos observed babies at Athens' Alexandra Hospital to document the growing epidemic. Due to economic hardships, an increasing number of parents have given up their kids.
According to the article, Athens' Elena Venizelou Hospital has gained three times more babies, between 2010 to 2013. The children aren't given adequate space, care, or affection, before they are placed at orphanages across the nation.
