Greek Public Order Minister Dendias Calls For EU Illegal Migration Support
On Friday at the Justice and Home Affairs Council in Luxembourg, Greek Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias requested EU illegal migration support, which is not solely a Greek challenge.
According to ANA-MPA, in his address the Minister stated, "Today, as part of the Ministers Council, I had the opportunity to address my European Union colleagues and elaborate on the progress in the Greek plan to deal with undocumented migration flows; I am very happy with the response I found and particularly with the positive comments by Commissioner Cecilia Malstrom. In any case, I had to elaborate on the challenges in the implementation of the plan and mainly the need for the European Commission to put pressure on the countries of the migrants' origin, such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq and Algeria, to take back most of their nationals based on the implementation of the Treaties they have already signed. This is essential for the Greek plan. I also had the opportunity to ask for the European support, the implementation of the principle of solidarity in handling a problem, that of illegal migration, which is not a Greek problem but a European one. A European problem should have a European solution."
