Ermoupolis: tours of historic mansions
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
At the initiative of the South Aegean Region, an innovative tourism product, which is already running in Ermoupolis Syros, unlocks the doors of old mansions and calls Greeks and foreign visitors to take a dip in their history.
Starting next season, selected historical buildings of Syros, public and private, open their doors and are open to visitors for group tour with accompanying guides.
The Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, Sergei Ivanov ushered in the pilot tour made, saying how impressed he was by the beauty of the mansions. The presence of the minister on Syros is an "opening" to the Russian market for attracting Russian visitors to the island.
The idea of the project was awarded to four students of the Department of Engineering, Product, and Systems Design of the University of the Aegean with the goal of creating a new tourist product, which will be based on the principles of Service Design to enrich the tourist product of Syros.
The program, which is a journey through time and gives a "flavor" of the history of planning was designed by Galatea Panourgia, Anna Danae, Debbie Loizou and Eleni Bourliou, in the context of their doctoral thesis with the supervisor Spyros Bofylatos.
Future visitors will have the opportunity to tour old mansions, with special historical and architectural value, admire exceptional murals and ceiling paintings, and be inspired by the remarkable painted decoration. And all this in the presence of the owners of the buildings whether they are residential or act as workplaces.
