The Greek language is truly a gift to the development of European civilization, and its culture has influenced many people extending beyond the borders of Europe. Although many educated Europeans carried with them the love for the Ancient Greek language and culture upon settling in the New World, not much was known about the Greek culture as a whole.

Mike Pantelides, a young Greek-American Republican candidate running for mayor of Annapolis, Maryland has won the election. Pantelides prevailed in a thrilling victory over current mayor Josh Cohen, and has now become one of the youngest mayors to be elected in recent times.

A Greek-American athlete is participating in the New York City Marathon for philanthropic purposes. Penny Kouklakis Homenides, who is well known in her community, will run the course of the "BigApple" to help raise money for The Hellenic Relief Foundation, a New York non-profit organization, who provides health and nutrition to the population of Greece suffering from the current economic crisis.
