AHEPA: Salute to Women Award to New Greek TV President and Wellness Expert, Yanna Darilis.

AHEPA and Daughters of Penelope convened at Las Vegas Nevada July 23th - 28th 2023 for their 101st Supreme Convention. The five-day event held annual supreme lodge meetings to discuss various issues relating to domestic and foreign relations with Greece, along with discussions about various philanthropic initiatives that where on the agenda for support, briefs of past year milestones, announcement of scholarships, talks about issues related to the Eastern Mediterranean Region, and book presentations about Hellenism. The convention honored various prominent Greek Americans by AHEPA and Daughter of Penelope, held luncheons, a Banquet Dinner Gala, and ended with the AHEPA Family newly elected Officers Installations.
Over 800 Greek- Americans from around the United States along with many AHEPAN Brothers and Sisters flew in from Europe including Greece and Brussels. The Hellenes flocked to the dessert of Las Vegas Nevada to mingle, donate, and celebrate various honorees awarded by AHEPA including Ambassador of the United States to Greece, George Tsunis, and Daughters of Penelope Salute to Women Award to TV personality and Wellness Expert, Yanna Darilis.

This year’s Salute to Women honoree Greek-American, Yanna Darilis, has been serving the Greek and Greek American Community for over 25 years. Grand President of the Daughters of Penelope, Georgette Boulegeris and Executive Director, Elena Saviolakis, welcomed DOP’s fellow Sisters and Maids from all over the United States at the awards luncheon, including Ambassador of the United States to Greece, George Tsunis, and AHEPA’s Supreme President Jimmy Kokotas, including newly elected Supreme President Savas Tsivikos.
The guests met and celebrated this year’s honoree and spoke about her accomplishments. Yanna Darilis’s career in the broadcast industry spans over 25 years, having worked on major Greek and American television channels as an on-camera talent, journalist, producer, director, and writer. She is a pioneer in the broadcast space in Greece as one of the first women to host and produce English language programming and the first woman to serve as a CEO and President in Greek media for the Greek American Channel, New Greek TV, on Spectrum, Charter, RCN and Bell Fiber Canada. Highlights of her career include anchor and host of the first English language news and magazine shows for Antenna and ERT World, Master of Ceremonies for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, author of the first fitness and nutrition book for Greece, moderator for numerous panels related to the UN SDG’s at the United Nations, host of the first English language travel series on Greece “Mediterranean Blue”, on PBS and OTE History channel, contributing editor for the huffingtonpost.com & thriveglobal.com. Yanna holds various degrees which include an MS, ND, and PhD. Her broad educational background includes film & television, science & health, nutrition, and alternative medicine.
Salute to Women
The Salute to Women was conceived in 1965 to promote the Daughters of Penelope as a major National and International Woman's Philanthropic Organization, Grand President Merakos adopted the idea to honor a woman who represented and possessed the goals and ideals of the Daughters of Penelope.
The AHEPA 101 Supreme Gala presented various awards to AHEPAN brothers who have made a difference with their tireless work with AHEPA’s supreme order. This year’s AHEPAN of the Year was Supreme President of Canada, Vasilios Sioulas from Ottowa.
AHEPA awarded Greek American and member of AHEPA, Ambassador of the United States to Greece, George Tsunis, for his tireless work with the Greek and Greek American Community and for his great philanthropic donations for various charitable causes of AHEPA. Ambassador George Tsunis is a lawyer and businessman and was nominated by President Joe Biden to serve as ambassador of the United States to Greece and was confirmed by the United States Senate and began serving on May 10, 2022.
The heartwarming five day filled convention was focused on prompting the new generation of Sons of Pericles and Maids of Athena, to continue serving the great legacy of the over 100 years old organization.
