Awarding of diplomas to the participants of the Summer University in Boston

Τhe 10th International Summer University "Greek Language, Culture and Media." on the subject of the dissemination and teaching of the Greek Language in America finished off its work with the awarding of diplomas to the participants. The Summer University took place at the Maliotio Cultural Center of the Hellenic College and School of Theology of the Holy Cross in Boston from May 28 to June 2, 2024, as the "National Herald" has extensively written.
The diplomas were awardedon the afternoon of Sunday, June 2, by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, who officiated during the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Cross chapel of the School of Theology.
Among the organizers of the program were the University of Ioannina which had the central responsibility with the Faculty of Education Sciences, Pedagogical Department of Kindergarten Teachers, Laboratory for the Study of Social Issues, Media and Education, the Maliotei Cultural Center, the Association of Philhellenes of Boston University (Boston University Philhellenes) , the Center for Hellenic Studies of the University of Chicago (University of Chicago – Center for Hellenic Studies), the Setor de Grego, Instituto de Letras, the Rio De Janeiro University, the academic program Study in Greece and the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum.
During the diploma awarding ceremony, Archbishop Elpidophoros spoke, who reviewed the teaching of the Greek language and the course of Greekness and Hellenism from the time of the pioneer Greek immigrants until today. Greetings were addressed by the founder and scientific manager of the program, professor Nicoletta Tsitsanoudi-Mallidis and the executive director of the Maliotei Cultural Center, Chrysoula Kourkountis, who congratulated the attendees and thanked the speakers. A special mention of thanks was made to the Consul General of Greece in Boston, Ambassador Simeon Tegoσ, who received the participants in the premises of the Consulate General, to Anna Batistatou, rector of the University of Ioannina, and professor of the Department of Medicine, Health Sciences, who honored with the personal presence and participation in the program, to the president of the Hellenic College and the School of Theology of the Holy Cross, Dimitrios Katos, who attended the work of the program and the various evening events, to the former president of the institution, Georgios Kantonis, during whose tenure he and the Malioteium was reformed and the holding of the summer university in its premises was approved, to Mr. Savvas Tsivikos, president of AHEPA who financially supported the program, to Drakoulis Behrakis, former head of the advisory committee of the Malioteium who received the participants in the Behrakis wing of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, in the large support group of the program, with executives of the Malioteiο Cultural Center and scientific collaborators of the University of Ioannina and Anastasios Koularmanis, director of the Greek Education department of the Archdiocese, who flanked Archbishop Elpidophoros during the ceremony of completion of the program.
