NY food blogger lauds Souvlaki Lady
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Marco Lombardi is an avid foodie from New York who loves good street food, and decided to turn it into a profession.
The American food blogger is a content creator and shares on his TikTok and Instagram, where he maintains thousands of followers, videos recommending the best street food spots in the "Big Apple".
In fact, when it comes to finding cheap eats in New York (under $20 and often under $5), his videos go viral with thousands, often millions, of views.
The street food lover regularly searches for food that fills the belly without... emptying the wallets and finds hidden gems in the narrow streets of New York.
The 32-year-old foodie has showcased many of his "discoveries" in his "4 Spots $20" series on social media.
Now, his goal is to showcase New York's hidden gems and help people who can't afford these great spots. He also believes that the inscription "cheap eats" does not mean poor quality.
"When I think of cheap eats, I honestly think of New York in the '90s," he tells the New York Post. “She's a grandmother trying to make ends meet for her family. These restaurants have been around for 25 to 30 years. Why would they change the price? ... don't fix what isn't broken."
A Greek street food among the cheapest in New York
In a video he shared a while ago about New York's cheap street food spots, he found himself in Astoria, Queens.
Among the four spots that stood out is a Greek souvlaki restaurant, "Souvlaki Lady" by Elpida Vasiliadis.
The 'Souvlaki Lady' canteen has been at 33rd Street & Ditmars Blvd for thirty years, and lines form for a juicy souvlaki.
A chicken skewer costs $4, which is very affordable for the US. Served in foil, with plenty of oregano and a large and fluffy slice of bread.
