- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The Greek school "Platon" in Brooklyn celebrated Christmas on Saturday, December 21.
Students from pre-kindergarten to 9th grade presented customs and traditions of Greece, theatrical performances, sang traditional carols and referred to the importance of the holy days, spreading pride in parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.
In his greeting message, the principal, Leonidas Papoulias, said: "By placing particular emphasis on the educational role of festive events, we took care with our excellent colleagues through this celebration to transmit values that are intertwined with Greek tradition, culture and Orthodoxy.
Values such as solidarity, respect for fellow human beings, love and freedom. Values that are unfortunately declining or overlooked in our modern consumer era.
I would like to express my warmest thanks to our teachers, who guide our children with such zeal and dedication.
A big thank you also to the parents who support our every effort, are always by our side and help us everywhere.
I wish you all a wonderful Christmas, with health and to enjoy our students.

The chairman of the Board of Directors, Kostas Karkas, expressed the joy and pride of all members for the progress of the school and congratulated parents, teachers, principal, parents' association and council, who are fighting, as he said, for Hellenism.
“We all have a duty and a duty to perpetuate our religion, language, our incomparable culture, morals and customs.
With the very beautiful program that the school students presented today, with so little time to prepare, we traveled to Greece and to the memories of our childhood Christmases.
With the children we have, the future of Hellenism here in America will continue to be bright.”
New York Education Coordinator, Dr. Dimitra Patronidou, expressed her pride and emotion for the school’s achievements and congratulated the teachers and students because, as she said, “they brought us the spirit of Christmas, filled us with joy and conveyed to us the true message of Christmas.”
The president of the Parents' Association, Maria Koukouli-Karka, thanked all members for their help and contribution, congratulated the school for the program and wished everyone a wonderful holiday with their families and loved ones and a new year filled with health, only joy and progress.
